my scripts

This is the start and beginning of list of home cocked and sadly badly coded scripts that I use. For the moment the list is rather short (one item). You can download and try that script - if you dare.
You do it utterly and totally on your own risk. I'm not a professional programmer so I can give no guaranties or warranties... The only thing I can say is that I use it my self...
DagsBild - Photo Import version 1.1
This one I wrote after getting divine inspiration from a fellow photographer (Mark Fuller from the UK - http://www.mark-fuller.co.uk) on a user forum. He had the idea that the software discussed should let us import only in camera selected photos. I thought it was such I good idea I could not wait for the software developers to implement that function in the program (we are talking about ACDSee Pro 4 here). So I decided to try to deal with the matter my self. And here is the result.
When its installed on my computer I have an icon (a shortcut to the actual script) on my desktop. I connect the camera to the computer and Windows ask me what I want to do? I chose to open the folder with the images on the card of the camera. There I select all images and then I just drag them over to the desktop icon and drop them. The script starts and I can chose to import only the selected (locked) images or I can import the not selected (open) ones... Or I can simply import the whole batch.
From version 1.1 I can use it from within ACDSee. I ad the script as an external editor in ACDSee so I can run it from within ACDSee. It works almost the same way as with the icon on the desc top. I open the folder on the memory card in ACDSee manage mode, select all files and run the script as an external editor.
What is it good for? Well, when I get back from a photo session I only wan to get my selected pictures imported – it's faster and I can get them out to friends and customers much quicker. Then... When I'm done I can import the rest to archive them and to see if there might have been a photo or two that I missed when I evaluated them in the camera.
Some times you get home from such a session with hundreds or thousands of images. And it takes an eternity to import them all. But many camera offers a way to select images in the camera. Well, actually it is more of a security thing. On my Nikons there is a button with a key on. If I press that one when I have one of the photos on display it will get 'locked'. And locking it this way is actually the same as setting it to be a read only file. It can not be accidentally deleted. But as I see it it is a way of selecting the best and most valuable shots.
So, with this method I can select images while I'm out there during the session or on the way back... And when I get back I only have to import these very few selected photos and can get on finalizing the job much faster. After I'm done and have delivered the best (I hope) shots I can import the rest to store and archive them with the others. And if I have the time I can run through them one more time to see if I have missed any good ones.
I really like it. It speeds up my work-flow a lot!
I have only used the script for a short time now but I already feel that I will never want to be without it again.

You are free to try this script ON YOUR OWN RISK. And I know it's not a master piece of code so you are much welcome to contact me if you can help me improve it. But as I said - I use it my self. And it workes fine on my machine... A Sony Vaio (Windows 7 Professional 64bit)... And it work with my Nikon files... I don't know if it workes with files from any other cameras...
Installation

Us it with ACDSee Pro4
1. Install the script “DagsBild - Photo Import Script.bat” as an etxrenal editor in ACDSee. Read the help in ACDSee to se how you do. Note that when you brows for the script ACDSee will only show .exe files. To se the script you have to change the matrix from *.exe to *.bat (or just a *) to find the .bat file (the script). Note also that you have to set your new external editor to suupport multiple files
.
2. When the script is installed as an external editor in ACDSee you open the folder on the card in ACDSee Manage mode, select all files and run the script as if you would send the files to an external editor.
NOTE: The PDF documentation is not available from within the script when run from ACDSee as an external editor... Nor is the settings file... To get to the settings file to permanently change the default import folder you have to either run the script from the desctop icon, from the actual home folder of the script or just open the SETTINGS.bat file (located in the same folder) in a texteditor (notepad).
